Watch Eugenie Bouchard name Wimbledon as ‘greatest tournament’
World No7 Eugenie Bouchard says the grass-court season is her favourite
Eugenie Bouchard has cemented her growing status as the darling of Wimbledon after the world No7 described the Grand Slam as tennis’ greatest tournament.
The 21-year-old will get her Miami Open second round match against Tatjana Maria underway on Saturday afternoon after it was suspended before play started last night.
Bouchard reached her first Grand Slam final at SW19 last year after the Canadian number one won over the hearts of the Wimbledon crowd en route to the final.
Despite an empathic loss in straight sets to two-time winner Petra Kvitova, Bouchard revealed to fans in a WTA clip that her love of the grass courts is still burning strong.
“My favourite surface to play on his grass. It is such a unique surface and it is unfortunate that the season is so short. I try to make the most of it and play as many tournaments as I can. It suits my game really well and it has the greatest tournament as well,” Bouchard told WTA TV.
Bouchard is a notorious fan of selfies, even taking a fan’s phone to take an impromptu snap following a win at Australian Open in Melbourne earlier this year.
And the Miami Open sixth seed gave her Genie Army fans a quick tutorial on the perfect selfie.
“I wouldn’t say I’m the best at selfies but I do take a lot. The most important thing is to hold it at a higher angle than your face because it makes you look a little better,” Bouchard added.
