Liverpool have been handed a boost ahead of their clash against Swansea City at Liberty Stadium on Monday night after Lucas Leiva edged closer to a return from a thigh injury.

The Reds midfielder hasn’t featured for Brendan Rodgers’ side since the Brazil international was forced off inside 16 minutes of the Merseyside derby on 16 February.

Welshman Joe Allen has been deputising for the sidelined defensive midfielder over the past month or so, helping the Reds to extend their unbeaten league run to 12 games.

However, the former Swans man could be facing competition from the South American for a starting spot in Rodgers’ side in the near future after Lucas uploaded a video of a training session on Sunday.

Lucas posted the above clip and wrote: “Not long now!!!”

Lucas was a key part of Liverpool’s upturn in fortunes after Brendan Rodgers restored the midfielder to his side for their 3-0 defeat by Manchester United.

Although the Reds lost at Old Trafford, Lucas helped Liverpool put together an eight-game run before he suffered his thigh problem in a goalless draw with Everton.
