West Ham 0 Chelsea 1: Jose Mourinho salutes ‘fantastic’ Eden Hazard

The Chelsea manager is full of praise for Eden Hazard after Belgian fires the Blues to a 1-0 win at West Ham

Jose Mourinho once again reserved special praise for Eden Hazard after watching his Chelsea side beat West Ham 1-0 to keep their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Hazard gave the visitors the lead at Upton Park when he headed home Ramires’ cross from the right in the 22nd minute in east London.

Ramires hit the post in the second half and forced a brilliant save from Adrian.

West Ham battled hard to make it an uncomfortable evening for Mourinho’s table-toppers.

But the Blues had Hazard to thank for the three points, with the Belgian’s 10th Premier League goal of the season proving the difference.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game Mourinho saluted Hazard’s professionalism.

Mourinho said: “Eden Hazard is fantastic. He is punished by opponents in a very hard way. Today, not in a violent way, just an aggressive football way because they tried to stop him but the kid is playing, scoring and defending.

“My team were brothers on the pitch and that is important if you are to win the most difficult league in the world.”

The Portuguese coach conceded that it had been a far-from-comfortable evening for him, adding: “I want to sleep tomorrow until midday. Today easily you lose two points.”

Wednesday’s win kept Chelsea five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, and the Blues also have a game in hand over their main rivals.
