Olivier Giroud took his Premier League tally to 13 goals for the season as Arsenal were 2-1 winners against Newcastle United.

The France international scored twice in the space of three minutes to put the north London side in charge at St James’ Park, however, Newcastle endured a nervy final 42 minutes after Papiss Cisse’s 48th-minute strike.

Here is a selection of the best Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order to Arsenal’s narrow win as the Gunners move to within four points of leaders Chelsea.

Double Olympic champion and Arsenal supporter Mo Farah (@Mo_Farah) is eyeing three points for the Gunners at St James’ Park: “Come on Arsenal….!!! #NUFCvAFC #Gunners”

Outspoken Arsenal fan Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) cheers the first goal on Tyneside this afternoon: “BOOM! 0-1. Giroud again. #afc”

Tottenham legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) is looking to tempt some angry Twitter followers into a bite on his humorous tweet: “Giroud scores yet another goal. Must be on the brink of an England call up.”

More from Mo (@Mo_Farah) as Giroud puts the visitors two goals to the good against the Magpies: “Giroud……!!! Is on fire…….!!! #Gunners”

Meanwhile, Morgan (@piersmorgan) appears to think that he is in charge of recruitment at Emirates Stadium: “I’d keep Giroud but add a world class striker to lead line > RT @PetrolHeadJack: @piersmorgan still think we need to replace Giroud?”

Former Middlesbrough midfielder Jan Aage Fjortoft (@JanAageFjortoft) believes Arsenal have turned a corner in recent months, at least in the Premier League: “Take away THAT game vs Monaco. Fair to say that Arsenal have take another step this season.Couple good signings this summer: TitleContender.”

Arsenal legend Ian Wright (@IanWright0) is clearly delighted with Giroud’s two goals at St James’ Park: “La la la la la la la, la la la la GIROUD!”

However, former Manchester United defender Philip Neville (@fizzer18) believes Newcastle deserve credit for a better second-half performance: “Newcastle been brilliant 2nd half so far!”
