Alexis Sanchez: Why I’ve been surprised by Arsenal
Alexis Sanchez says that he was left impressed by the individual quality present in the Arsenal side
Alexis Sanchez has admitted that he has been “really surprised” by the quality of the Arsenal squad since joining the club from Barcelona last summer.
The Chilean has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this season following his £35m move to The Emirates from Camp Nou back in July last year.
The 26-year-old has scored 14 goals and made eight assists in the Premier League and netted twice as Arsenal beat Reading 2-1 in the FA Cup semi-finals on Saturday.
However, the attacker says that he has been thoroughly impressed by the individual quality present in Arsene Wenger’s side.
“When I arrived at the club I didn’t know the players that well, but I was really surprised by everyone’s quality,” Sanchez told Arsenal’s website.
“I am not saying this just because it’s my obligation to do it. Being part of a team like this makes me very proud. I am willing to win many titles here.”
Sanchez also singled out Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla for special praise following the Spaniard’s sparkling form for the Gunner this season.
“Santi Cazorla is a spectacular player,” he continued. “You never know whether he will kick the ball with his right or left foot. Also, he moves with short but quick strides, which is a remarkable trademark too.
“Although I knew about his quality, playing alongside him makes me very happy.”
Both Sanchez and Cazorla will be hoping to feature when Arsenal host Premier League leaders Chelsea at Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The Gunners are currently second in the top flight table.
