Arsenal 0 Chelsea 0: Player ratings as John Terry impresses

Player ratings as Arsenal fail to beat Jose Mourinho's Chelsea side in a tight affair at The Emirates

By Sid Selant

David Ospina Quiet first half and was very lucky not to concede a penalty after clattering Oscar in the penalty area. 5/10

Hector Bellerin The 20-year-old Spanish right-back had a good game, however, Chelsea should have been awarded a penalty after he clipped Oscar. 6

Per Mertesacker The German captained the Gunners and led from the back. Will be happy with his performance. 6

Laurent Koscielny Not tested as much due to the absence of Costa and made a slight misjudgement early in the game which could have led to a goal. 6

Nacho Monreal Ventured forward and tried to get involved in play by providing width. 6

Francis Coquelin The holding midfielder allowed Cazorla to attack more. 6

Santi Cazorla The miniature Spaniard tried to dictate play and create attacks whilst Coquelin covered his back four. 6

Aaron Ramsey He lacked any conviction going forward. Not able to combine with Sanchez or Cazorla. 5

Mesut Özil Ozil had Arsenal’s only attempt on target in the first half and could have nicked all three points at the death but slung his left foot and missed the ball. 4

Alexis Sánchez The Chilean made a blistering start to the campaign but the forward seems to be running out of steam. Not as much of an attacking threat. 6

Olivier Giroud Like a box of chocolates as you never know what kind of performance you are going to get from the Arsenal striker. 5

Theo Walcott N/A

Danny Welbeck Not enough time to have an impact on the game. N/A

Thibaut Courtois The towering Belgian was a spectator for most of the game and had one shot to save. 6

Branislav Ivanovic The Serbian played his 50th consecutive game for Chelsea but it was an uninspiring performance from the right-back. Booked for a reckless tackle on Sanchez in the second half. 5

Gary Cahill The Chelsea defender was rarely tested and kept his composure alongside his captain. 6

John Terry (Man of the match) The Chelsea captain marshalled his defence well and the defender kept Arsenal at bay. 6

Cesar Azpilicueta Comfortable afternoon for the full-back, who tried to attack down the flanks as often as possible. 6

Cesc Fàbregas The former Arsenal man played his first game against his former team and was booed every time he touched the ball. Booked for diving in the penalty area but Mourinho saw it differently. 5

Nemanja Matic The Serbian broke up play well and the midfielder didn’t allow the Arsenal midfield to play. 6

Ramires The Brazil international hustled and bustled without any success. 5

Oscar The South American an inspiring first half, causing Arsenal problems. He will feel aggrieved to the fact that he should have had two penalties. Substituted at half-time amid fears of concussion after colliding with Ospina. 7

Willian He was not as influential as Chelsea fans would have wanted him to be. Booked for a clumsy foul. 5

Eden Hazard The Belgian played up front in the absence of Costa and was not as effective as his normal playing position. Drifted out wide to try and influence the game. In and out of the game which was a disappointment. 5

Kurt Zouma N/A

Didier Drogba Replaced Oscar and had a few attempts at the Arsenal goal. Possessed a great goal scoring record against the Gunners but failed to add to it. 5
