Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger runs the rule over Chelsea’s Eden Hazard
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he has been impressed by what he has seen from Eden Hazard at Chelsea this season
Arsene Wenger admits that he has been impressed by Eden Hazard’s form for Chelsea this season but feels that Alexis Sanchez has had a similar impact for Arsenal.
Both players have been named on the shortlist to win the PFA player of the year award after sparkling campaigns for their clubs.
I think everybody would agree that Hazard has had a great season
Hazard has been the driving force behind Chelsea’s Premier League title bid and has helped the Blues build a 10-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Sanchez, meanwhile, has been in sparkling form for Arsenal following his £35m transfer to the north London club from Barcelona last summer.
And Wenger, whose side host Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, believes that the duo have been the Premier League’s most consistent performers this season.
“Alexis had a big impact and let’s not forget that for Hazard it is not the first season but for Alexis it is,” Wenger told a news conference on Thursday.
“He will give him a fight and if Alexis doesn’t make it this year, he will give him a fight as well for next season.
“I think everybody would agree that Hazard has had a great season and one of the aspects of Sunday’s game will be to keep him quiet.
“He has found maturity that he did not have before. I believe his final ball is better, his personality on the pitch is stronger, the finishing aspect of his game is much better than before. He can turn games when it’s 0-0 and when it’s tight. That’s always a sign of top quality.”
Hazard has scored 13 goals and made eight assists in 32 games for Chelsea this season, while Sanchez has netted 14 goals and notched up eight assists for Arsenal.
