Arsenal have no chance of winning title, says former Chelsea defender
Former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot rubbishes talk of Arsenal winning the Premier League title
Arsenal have no chance of winning the Premier League title, according to former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot.
The Gunners can move to within seven points of the Premier League leaders if Arsene Wenger can beat Jose Mourinho for the first time in 13 attempts.
Jose Mourinho won’t let Chelsea slow down
The north London side have won their last eight Premier League games following a 2-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in early February.
Retired Netherlands international Melchiot believes Mourinho won’t allow any complacency to seep into the Chelsea ranks ahead of their top-of-the-table clash.
“No, I don’t think there’s any way Arsenal can get back into the Premier League title race,” Melchiot told talkSPORT.
“Jose Mourinho won’t let Chelsea slow down, he’ll be on the training ground saying, ‘Arsenal are trying to catch us’.
“His game is all about making you think he’s not worried by anything. While, at the training ground, he’ll be working on it.
“In his mind there’s nothing else that he wants more than a win. He won’t go for a draw. That will put everything to bed and they will win the title.”
Arsenal edged into the FA Cup final after a 2-1 extra-time victory over Championship side Reading on Saturday courtesy of a brace from Alexis Sanchez.
Chelsea, meanwhile, were 1-0 winners against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge last weekend after Eden Hazard scored a first-half winner in west London.
The Blues were 2-0 winners against Wenger’s side at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League earlier this season.
