Arsenal legend Henry criticises Hernandez for Real Madrid celebration
Thierry Henry believes that Javier Hernandez should have celebrated his Real Madrid winner with Cristiano Ronaldo
Thierry Henry has criticised Javier Hernandez for the way the striker celebrated scoring Real Madrid’s winning goal against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.
The Mexico striker hit an 88th-minute winner to hand Carlo Ancelotti’s men victory and book their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Cristiano Ronaldo was the architect of the goal and his pass set up Hernandez for the striker to tap home.
And former Arsenal striker Henry felt that the forward should have made more of a point of celebrating his goal with Ronaldo as Los Blancos booked their place in the last four of Europe’s elite club competition.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Henry said: “That’s Ronaldo’s goal. At that particular moment he couldn’t shoot, so he didn’t take the risk of doing something stupid and silly with it.
“He saw a guy in a better position, which Chicharito was, and he gave him the ball.
“What I don’t like is Chicharito seems like he’s won the World Cup with that.”
Hernandez has only made two La Liga starts for Real since joining on loan from Manchester United last summer. He has scored four goals and made two assists in the Spanish top flight.
Real Madrid will face either Bayern Munich, Juventus or Barcelona the semi-finals of the Champions League.
