Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez: My biggest idol
Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez reveals that his mother is his biggest inspiration for him
Alexis Sanchez says that his mother is his biggest inspiration.
The Chile international has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this season since his £35m transfer to Arsenal from Barcelona last summer.
The 26-year-old has scored 14 goals and made eight assists in 29 Premier League games for the north London side so far this term.
And the former Udinese forward has revealed how his mother’s care for him as a young boy serves as a source of inspiration for him to this day.
Sanchez told Arsenal’s website: “My mum is my biggest idol. There was a time when I had no football boots as my mum did not have money to buy a pair for me. I begged for new boots at home, but unfortunately my mum couldn’t pay for them.
“At that time I was the most important player for Arauco, the municipality’s football team. My mum went to Arauco’s city hall to ask for some sort of grant to the town´s mayor so I could have a new pair of boots.
“I wasn’t aware of her efforts until one night at 10pm a delivery van stopped at my doorstep with some brand new boots for me. I put them on straight away and I started playing on the street. I was so happy about that.”
Sanchez has scored 22 goals and notched up 11 assists in all competitions in his debut season for Arsenal since his move to England last summer.
He will be expecting to feature when Arsene Wenger’s men take on Chelsea at Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Arsenal are currently in second place in the Premier League table after winning their last eight top-flight games.
