Arsenal the best team in Europe, declares Theo Walcott
Theo Walcott believes that Arsenal have been the best team in Europe in recent weeks
Theo Walcott has declared that Arsenal have been the best team in Europe in recent weeks.
The Gunners have certainly been in fine form since the turn of the year, with Arsene Wenger’s men having won eight of their last nine Premier League games to help them close in on a place in the top four.
The north London side are also through to the FA Cup final after beating Reading at Wembley earlier this month.
And Walcott has been impressed by what he has seen from the north London side of late.
Walcott told Arsenal’s website: “In this calendar year, we’ve been the best team in Europe. It’s the strongest the squad has been and everyone is staying fit as well.
“There aren’t many injuries in the squad, which is important. If we had an injury-free season, I think we could lift the title.
“There’s a lot of competition for places so everyone seems to lift a gear and play extremely well. It makes it a bit more difficult for people to get into the team.
“I think, especially this season, not many people thought we’d be second and challenging for the Premier League.”
Walcott, who made his return from a long-term knee injury this term, has found his first-team opportunities at Arsenal limited this season.
He has been limited to just three Premier League starts for Wenger’s men and has scored three goals in all competitions.
Walcott will be hoping to feature when Arsenal take on Hull City in the Premier League on Monday.
