Arsenal transfers: Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling flattered by Gunners link
Raheem Sterling admits that he was flattered to hear his name linked with a transfer to Arsenal this summer
Raheem Sterling admits that he is “quite flattered” to be linked with a summer transfer to Arsenal as his Liverpool future remains a source of speculation.
The Gunners have been reported to be considering a move for the 20-year-old England international as talks over a new contract at Anfield continue to stall.
And although the England international insists that he is fully focused on helping Liverpool enjoy a successful end to the season, he admits that he has enjoyed hearing of Arsenal’s reported interest in him.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Sterling said: “Yeah definitely it’s quite flattering [to be linked], but I try to just block everything out in my head and just keep playing football and doing well in my next game.
“My next game is against Arsenal [on Saturday] and I’ll be trying to my best against them, I won’t hide anything about that.
“I’m just happy to be playing football and want to do my best for Liverpool.”
It is understood that Sterling has rejected an offer of a £100,000-a-week contract from Liverpool in recent weeks.
Sterling, who is likely to feature when Liverpool take on Arsenal at The Emirates on Saturday lunchtime, is thought to earn around £30,000 a week at the Merseyside club.
He has scored six goals and made seven assists in the Premier League this season.
