Arsenal transfers: Victor Wanyama denies Arsene Wenger talks
Southampton star Victor Wanyama rubbishes media reports that quote midfielder as talking up potential Arsenal move
Victor Wanyama has taken to Twitter to end speculation linking the Southampton midfielder with a move to Arsenal.
The Kenya international was quoted by the Metro as talking up Arsene Wenger’s interest in the Saints man and fuelling talk of a potential move to the north London club in the summer.
However, 23-year-old Wanyama, who moved to St Mary’s from Celtic in £12.5m deal in 2013, felt compelled to take to social media to brand the media report as false.
Wanyama wrote: “I have to make it clear that I have not said what as been brought up today am professional and will never say that.”
The Saints midfielder, who is believed to be valued at around £20m by the south coast club, added that he has not been in contact with Arsenal manager Wenger.
“To cut the story short have never spoken to Wenger,” Wanyama added.
The Kenya captain has scored three goals and has made one assist in 28 Premier League appearances for Ronald Koeman’s side this season.
Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for Wanyama’s midfield partner Morgan Schneiderlin last summer, although the Saints refused to sell the France international.
