Arsenal’s Mathieu Debuchy: Why I want to finish my career at Lille
Mathieu Debuchy reveals that he has already decided that he wants to finish his career at Lille
Mathieu Debuchy has revealed that he would like to end his career at boyhood club Lille when his spell at Arsenal comes to an end.
The right-back has endured a frustrating first season at Arsenal since his transfer to Emirates Stadium from Newcastle United last summer.
And Debuchy has revealed that he has already thought about a move back to Lille when his time in the Premier League comes to an end.
Speaking to La Voix des Sports, Debuchy said: “I still have three and a half years contract at Arsenal, but to finish my career at Lille, that’s my goal.
“I have already said, I would just finish there. But we do not know what can happen, that will be for the head of LOSC to decide, which coach, we do not know.
“But it is an important club for me and I would love to finish my career there.”
He has made just 13 appearances for the north London club after suffering serious ankle and shoulder injuries.
The defender is now closing in on a comeback after dislocating his shoulder at the start of the year.
Debuchy made his latest return to action in a 4-0 friendly win over Brentford on Tuesday last week at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground.
Arsenal travel to Burnley in their next Premier League game on Saturday afternoon.
