Arsene Wenger hails Arsenal’s ‘intelligent and classy’ Mesut Ozil
Arsene Wenger singles Mesut Ozil out for special praise after his goal in Arsenal's 4-1 win over Liverpool
Arsene Wenger singled Mesut Ozil out for special praise after the playmaker scored in Arsenal’s thumping 4-1 win over Liverpool at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Ozil scored Arsenal’s second goal with a sublime free-kick as Wenger’s man ran riot in north London and secured victory to move up to second place in the Premier League table.
And the Frenchman hailed the 26-year-old’s contribution after he netted his fourth Premier League goal of the season against the Reds.
“What he does is always classy, intelligent and the timing of his passes is absolutely fantastic,” Wenger told his post-match news conference.
“He’s agile, flexible and always available in between the lines. When you play with him in the team, you would love to play with him.
“He’s sometimes criticised because of his physical challenges but I believe he’s on the way and is improving on that at the moment.
“He makes a big effort to work hard and be disciplined for the team.”
Arsenal went ahead in the 37th minute in north London when Hector Bellerin curled a left-footed shot low into the far post.
Ozil then made it 2-0 with a sublime free-kick just two minutes later, before Alexis Sanchez drilled home on the stroke of half-time.
Jordan Henderson pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the second half but Olivier Giroud’s stunning turn and shot added gloss to the scoreline after Emre Can was shown a second yellow card.
