Arsene Wenger sings Mesut Ozil’s praises ahead of Arsenal v Chelsea
Arsene Wenger has been thrilled by Mesut Ozil's form for Arsenal in recent weeks
Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on Mesut Ozil following the Arsenal playmaker’s good form in recent weeks.
The Germany international has produced a number of impressive performances for the north London side to help them up to second place in the Premier League table and book their place in the FA Cup final against Aston Villa.
Ozil came in for some criticism for a slow start to the season, and the World Cup winner also missed three months with a knee injury.
However, Wenger believes that the 26-year-old is now rediscovering his top form and has been delighted by what he has seen from Ozil in recent weeks.
Wenger told a news conference last week: “People questioned Ozil. Many people speak now about Alexis [Sanchez] but in the first part of the season Ozil wasn’t there.
“In the second part of the season Ozil has blossomed and is getting to where you want him to be.
“He is a player that is the centre of our game and also makes other people play. The real players are those who take the qualities of their partners – Ozil is one like that. He is naturally generous.”
Ozil set up both of Sanchez’s goals as Arsenal beat Reading 2-1 at Wembley last weekend to book their place in the final of the FA Cup.
Arsenal are 10 points behind Chelsea heading into Sunday’s clash at Emirates Stadium.
