Rodgers gives latest Liverpool injury update on Sturridge
Brendan Rodgers says Daniel Sturridge will be assessed in the build-up to Sunday's FA Cup semi-final
Daniel Sturridge is an injury doubt for Liverpool’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Aston Villa on Sunday after pulling out of Monday’s 2-0 win over Newcastle.
The England international, who has struggled with calf and thigh injuries this season, sat out Liverpool’s win on Merseyside after picking up a problem against Blackburn Rovers last week.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Monday’s clash at Anfield, manager Rodgers said: “He got injured at Blackburn and [is] unavailable fitness-wise for tonight.
“We will see how he goes the rest of the week for the semi-final at the weekend.”
Sturridge has struggled for fitness this season and spent almost five months on the sidelines towards the start of the season.
Rodgers, whose side are also currently without defender Mamadou Sakho, has not revealed the source of Sturridge’s problem.
Goals from Raheem Sterling and Joe Allen handed Liverpool a 2-0 win over Newcastle which moved the Reds to within four points of fourth-placed Manchester City.
Sturridge has scored four goals and made one assist in 13 Premier League games so far this season for Liverpool.
