Calum Chambers has thanked Arsene Wenger for the faith he has shown in him since his transfer to Arsenal from Southampton last summer.

The defender has been a regular fixture in the Gunners’ first-team since his £16m move to the north London club back in July.

The 20-year-old has netted one goal and made one assist in 23 Premier League games for the Gunners so far this term.

And Chambers has spoken of his admiration for Arsenal boss Wenger after the Frenchman gave the youngster regular chances to impress at Emirates Stadium.

Speaking to Arsenal Player, Chambers said: “He’s been fantastic to me – really supportive and he’s given me an opportunity to show everyone what I can do and opportunities to play games. I’m very grateful for what he’s done for me.

“Everyone has expectations on things but he’s exceeded all expectations that I had. He has been amazing for me and I can’t thank him enough.

“I think he’s very thoughtful in everything he does. He gives everyone a chance and he gets the best out of all the players, which is a very good quality to have.”

The Gunners are currently in third place in the Premier League table and a point behind defending champions Manchester City.

Chambers made his senior England debut back in October and has three caps to his name.
