Carragher, Lineker and more: Twitter reacts as Chelsea down QPR
Jamie Carragher and Gary Lineker both tweet their thoughts as Chelsea secure a dramatic 1-0 win at QPR
Chelsea stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League table back to seven points thanks to a dramatic 1-0 win at Queens Park Rangers on Sunday.
After a goalless 88 minutes in which QPR battled hard at Loftus Road, Cesc Fabregas scored the vital winner for Jose Mourinho’s men after good work by Eden Hazard and Oscar.
The victory took the Blues a step closer towards their first Premier League title since 2010 and moved them seven points ahead of Arsenal with a game in hand.
The game inevitably prompted plenty of activity on Twitter – and here are some of our favourite post-match updates.
Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) is the first to react to Fabregas’ winner: “Chelsea better than anyone for capitalising on mistakes.”
David Cotterill (@cotterill_david) is buzzing: “What a goal! Hazard, great finish from fabregas.”
Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) can’t help an obvious play on words: “Huge goal from Mask Fabregas!”
Danny Higginbotham (@Higginbotham05) was not impressed by QPR’s defending: “Typical of Chelsea. Came about from poor Green kick. Qpr players out of position.”
Jody Morris (@morriskid) reflects on the result: “Probably worst we’ve played on the ball in the league…lucky we was playing a team who was launching it straight back to us I spose”
Celebrity Chelsea fan Trevor Nelson (@DJTrevorNelson) is a happy man: “What a big goal for us. Just grinding out this title. Cmon you blues.”
Alan Tonge (@Alan_Tonge) makes a valid point: “At this stage of the season, it’s not about pretty football, it’s about winning football.”
QPR owner Tony Fernandes (@tonyfernandes) salutes the spirit of his players: “I don’t care about the result. We made Chelsea look ordinary and had the better chances. We will bounce back. Proud of everyone.”
And that just leaves Paul McGrath (@Paulmcgrath5 to have the final say: “Chelsea leave it late . OPR deserved more . Respect !”
