Cesc Fabregas: Chelsea can’t give Arsenal any hope
Cesc Fabregas tells his Chelsea team-mates that they must not give Arsenal any hope in the title race
Cesc Fabregas has told Chelsea that they cannot afford to give Arsenal “any hope” when the Blues take on the Gunners at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Jose Mourinho’s men took another big step towards winning their first Premier league title since 2010 on Saturday as Eden Hazard’s first-half goal secured a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
That win moved Chelsea 10 points clear of the north London club, who are currently second in the top-flight table, heading into the final six games of the season.
And former Arsenal captain Fabregas wants Mourinho’s side to underline their title bid by securing a positive result in north London next weekend.
Fabregas told Chelsea’s website: “It’s massive. We are level on games now, we are 10 points in front and we don’t want to give them hope to put pressure on us. We have to put in a good performance because we know the Emirates is always a difficult place to go.
“We just want to win it. The sooner, the better.
“We want to give satisfaction to the supporters. It’s been five years for them without winning the Premier League title; for me it’s been 27 years so I’d love to win it as soon as possible.”
The 27-year-old Spain international has scored three Premier League goals and made 16 assists for Mourinho’s men this season.
Fabregas, who spent eight years at Arsenal, joined Chelsea from Barcelona in a £27m deal last summer.
Arsenal will take on Aston Villa in next month’s FA Cup final.
