Chelsea transfers: Mauro Icardi discusses Inter Milan exit
Chelsea target Mauro Icardi is keen to stay at Inter Milan despite Premier League interest
Mauro Icardi says he will pack his bags if Inter Milan want to sell the striker, but insists he is happy to stay at San Siro beyond the summer.
The Argentina international has been linked with a move to Premier League leaders Chelsea in recent months amid growing uncertainty surrounding his Inter future.
Icardi has also been linked with Liverpool as Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his attacking options following Mario Balotelli’s disappointing form.
I signed the contract with the excitement and desire to prove my worth and be an important player for Inter
However, the 21-year-old striker was keen to stress that he isn’t looking to leave the Serie A side unless Inter opted to sell the South American.
“I still have three years, and if we can find an agreement then everyone’s going to be happy,” Icardi is quoted as saying by Football Italia.
“If other clubs want me, they have to talk about it with Inter. If the club wants to sell me, I’ll pack my bags and go.
“Otherwise, I’ll stay in Milan, as I really like it here and I’m happy. My family feels at home here.
“Regarding my pay, my salary, that I don’t ‘earn a lot’, these are things that are a result of two years ago when I came to Inter.
“To me, it was a good contract for having arrived at Inter. I signed the contract with the excitement and desire to prove my worth and be an important player for Inter.
“Now, after two years, I still have this contract that people are talking about, but my agents are speaking to the club, they’re coming to an agreement, they’re seeing how to fix this situation and when it happens, I’ll sign the renewal and, I’m sure, I’ll be happy and Inter will be happy if they want me to stay here.”
The Argentina international has scored 15 goals and has made one assist in 27 Serie A appearances for Nerazzurri this season.
Icardi, who was born in Rosario like Barcelona legend Lionel Messi, has scored 24 goals in 51 top-flight games following his move to Inter from Sampdoria in 2013.
