Chris Smalling: Man United confident of causing upset at Chelsea
Chris Smalling says that Manchester United are full of confidence heading into Saturday's clash
Chris Smalling insists that Manchester United travel to Chelsea on Saturday full of confidence following their recent impressive form.
The Red Devils head to Stamford Bridge having secured a string of impressive results in recent weeks, including wins over Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Manchester City.
United are currently third in the Premier League table and eight points behind Jose Mourinho’s leaders ahead of Saturday’s showdown at Stamford Bridge.
And Red Devils defender Smalling is confident that Louis van Gaal’s side can take at least a point with them back to Old Trafford.
Speaking to MUTV, England international Smalling said: “Stamford Bridge is a notorious place and Chelsea have probably been the best team in the league this year.
“But we are going there with that confidence and belief that we can actually get something with the way we have played.
“I think their team are well balanced and they are also a physical team. They can play good football but they can also change it up. They do score from a lot of set-pieces.
“It is a difficult place to go but I think, we’ll go there with a lot of confidence.”
United defender Smalling has scored four goals in 19 Premier League games for the Red Devils under new manager Van Gaal so far this season.
Chelsea are currently seven points clear at the top of the table and need just 11 points from their remaining seven games to win their first top-flight title since 2010.
