Dixon: Rodgers should get time despite suspect Liverpool signings
Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon feels Brendan Rodgers should be given more time at Liverpool
Brendan Rodgers should be given another season despite his suspect Liverpool signings last summer, according to Lee Dixon.
The Reds manager has endured a forgettable season after his side crashed out of the Champions League group-stage, lost to Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final and have imploded in the race for a top-four finish.
Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has been linked as a potential successor to the Northern Irishman after the 47-year-old confirmed that he will quit the Bundesliga side at the end of the season.
Although Dixon questioned the £120m that Rodgers spent in last summer’s transfer window, the former Arsenal defender defended the Northern Irishman amid growing uncertainty surrounding his position at Anfield.
Dixon wrote on BreatheSport: “He should have another season. Recruitment has been suspect but he is a good coach.
“Nearly won the laegue last year then lost both strikers effectively.”
Liverpool were unbeaten in 13 Premier League games before United were 2-1 winners against the 18-time English champions at Anfield in March.
The Reds lost 4-1 to Arsenal in their next top-flight outing and Rodgers’ side have failed to recover their form since their humiliation at The Emirates.
