Ferdinand, Lineker and more: Twitter reacts as Everton thrash Man United

Rio Ferdinand and Gary Lineker tweet their thoughts after Everton are emphatic 3-0 winners against Manchester United

Manchester United continued to stumble in the race for a top-four finish after Everton eased to an emphatic 3-0 victory over the Red Devils at Goodison Park.

Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy broke the deadlock before John Stones and Kevin Mirallas sealed three points for the home side, securing a third successive win against the Red Devils at Goodison Park.

Here is a selection of the best Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order to Everton’s impressive performance.

Former United captain Bryan Robson (@bryanrobson) reckons three points will be enough to get Louis van Gaal’s side back into Europe: “Win today and top 4 place almost there @ManUtd #mufc”

Queens Park Rangers defender Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) is settling down to a fascinating encounter: “Lively start…. #everton 1 vs 0 #mufc”

Everton legend Tim Cahill (@Tim_Cahill) is delighted to see the Toffees edge ahead: “Love these big games @everton great start #COYB 👊👊👊”

Former Toffees striker Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) runs the rule over the Everton youngster: “I like John Stones a lot. I hope he’s not bullied into being the safety first defender that is the bane of our game.”

Retired United man Alan Tonge (@Alan_Tonge) isn’t impressed with the Red Devils: “One to forget. It’s been absolute rubbish. Over and out. Have a nice rest of Sunday.”

Former Chelsea manager Ruud Gullit (@GullitR) is critical of the away side’s lack of fight on Merseyside: “Omg. #ManU gets a lesson in fighting for every inch. #everton plays with the heart.”

Finally, Danny Webber (@DanielWebber81) highlights the difference between a United win and a United defeat: “Don’t half miss Carrick #TheGlue”
