Former Liverpool defender urges Jon Flanagan to ‘stay positive’

Former Liverpool defender Rob Jones reacts to news of Jon Flanagan's fresh injury blow

Rob Jones has urged Jon Flanagan to stay positive after the Liverpool defender suffered a fresh injury blow on Thursday afternoon.

The 22-year-old full-back is expected to be sidelined for the next six to nine months after the Reds youngster was forced to have a new knee operation.

Flanagan, who earned praise from Brazil legend Cafu for his performances last term, hasn’t featured for the Merseyside outfit since pre-season due to the knee problem.

Former Liverpool defender Jones, who was forced to cut his own career short due to a longstanding knee issue, tweeted his support after the news broke on Thursday.

The Liverpool defender was on standby for Roy Hodgson’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup after a series of impressive performances for the Reds.

Flanagan, who was part of the Reds’s League Cup-winning squad in 2012, scored one goal in 25 Premier League appearances last season.
