Francis Coquelin: Why Thierry Henry is wrong about Arsenal star
Francis Coquelin insists that Olivier Giroud is good enough to lead Arsenal to a title challenge next season
Francis Coquelin has hit back at Thierry Henry’s claims that Arsenal need a top-quality striker to challenge for the Premier League title again.
Henry said that the north London side need “a top, top-quality striker in order to win this league again” after watching Arsenal play out a goalless draw with Chelsea at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Olivier Giroud has been Arsenal’s target man up front for most of this season and has scored 14 goals and made three assists in the Premier League so far this term.
And Arsenal midfielder Coquelin disagrees with Henry’s suggestion that the Gunners need to sign a new striker during the summer transfer window.
Speaking to RMC, Coquelin said: “Thierry Henry is wrong. Giroud shows his potential every week. He showed that he has the level to be the Arsenal striker, and we can win titles with him.
“We are disappointed with the result against Chelsea because we were on a good run.
“Now the target is to focus on the end of the championship, win all the remaining matches to get this second place, and of course win the FA Cup final.”
Coquelin will be expecting to feature when Arsenal return to Premier League action with a trip to Hull City in the Premier League on Monday night. The Gunners are currently third in the Premier League table.
