Gary Neville discusses David De Gea’s Man United future
Gary Neville says that Manchester United must do everything possible to keep David De Gea this summer
Gary Neville has told Manchester United that they must do everything in their power to keep hold of David De Gea this summer.
The Spanish goalkeeper has been one of the Premier League’s top shot-stoppers this season and was in good form again as United beat local rivals City 4-2 in Sunday’s derby at Old Trafford.
De Gea’s future has been a source of speculation in recent months, with Real Madrid reported to be weighing up a summer bid for the 24-year-old.
Former United defender Neville is keen for the Red Devils to keep hold of the goalkeeper beyond the summer, but should they end up selling to Madrid, he thinks that a Los Blancos player should be made part of the deal.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville said: “United need to try and keep him.
“But if they’re not going to keep them – it’s only going to be one club you can think of that are going to come in for him. United have got to take something off them.
“But I have to say, United have got to do everything in their power to try and keep him.
“At any club if you don’t have the goalkeeping position settled, it just creates anxiety, nervousness all the way through the team. And he is settled and performing fantastically well.”
De Gea has featured in all 32 of United’s Premier League games this season to help them up to third place in the table.
