Jamie Carragher: Liverpool must plan title challenge next season

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher appears to rule out a top-four finish on Twitter after Reds lose 1-0 to Hull

Jamie Carragher says Liverpool should focus on winning the Premier League title next season after the Reds suffered a blow to their slim Champions League hopes.

The Merseyside outfit succumbed to a 1-0 defeat by relegation-threatened Hull City at KC Stadium on Tuesday night after Michael Dawson scored a first-half winner for the hosts.

Liverpool are seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester United with four games remaining after failing to beat West Bromwich Albion and losing to Hull in their last two games.

The Reds launched an unlikely title challenge in 2013/14 campaign helped by their absence from European competitions, and Carragher indulged in some wishful thinking after their latest setback.

Liverpool were unbeaten in 13 Premier League games before United were 2-1 winners against the 18-time English champions at Anfield in March.

The Reds lost 4-1 to Arsenal in their next top-flight outing and Rodgers’ side have failed to recover their form since their humiliation at The Emirates.
