Jose Mourinho: Man United are phenomenal

Jose Mourinho is expecting Manchester United to challenge for the Premier League title next season

Jose Mourinho has described Manchester United’s squad as “phenomenal” and is fully expecting the Red Devils to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

The Red Devils are on course to secure qualification for next season’s Champions League as Louis van Gaal approaches the end of his first campaign in charge at Old Trafford.

United are currently fourth in the Premier League table and seven points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool heading into the final four games of the season.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are on the brink of securing their first top-flight title since 2010, with the Blues needing just two more wins from their remaining four games to claim victory.

And the Chelsea manager feels that his side are likely to be challenged by United in next season’s title race, with the Red Devils sure to strengthen in the summer transfer window.

Speaking at a news conference this week, Mourinho said: “Manchester United have a phenomenal squad, including the most expensive player in the history of the Premier League, Angel Di Maria, who is not even playing.

“That shows the quality of the squad. They are a club where Financial Fair Play doesn’t make a big difference and they will invest hugely again in the summer.”

He added: “It will be even more difficult for everyone than this year. It’s very difficult for a team to be dominant. This is not Germany with Bayern Munich. Not Switzerland with Basel. Not Scotland with Celtic. It’s very difficult.”
