Jose Mourinho: Man United or Arsenal can win the title

Jose Mourinho says Manchester United and Arsenal could still win the title ahead of Chelsea this season

Jose Mourinho has claimed that both Manchester United and Arsenal are still in the race for the Premier League title.

Chelsea head into Saturday’s clash with Stoke City at Stamford Bridge six points clear at the top of the Premier League table and having played a game less than their closest rivals.

However, despite the Blues’ significant advantage in the table, Mourinho feels that defending champions Manchester City, along with Arsenal and Manchester United, are still in with a chance of snatching the title from his side.

Speaking at his pre-match news conference at Cobham on Friday afternoon, Mourinho said: “Four [teams] now.

Look at the points difference. You have to say four now. Not five, because there’s a gap from fourth to fifth and, with eight matches to go, that’s a difficult game from first to fifth.

“But the points difference between second, third and fourth makes me think and feel that they are there.

“We need six victories and one draw from nine matches. A good situation for us, and one all the other clubs would like to have. But it’s pure mathematics. We need to win six matches and draw one. We need to do that, and we haven’t done it yet.”

Chelsea, who lifted the League Cup last month, have won six of their last 10 Premier League games.

Arsenal host Liverpool at Emirates Stadium on Saturday lunchtime, while Manchester United take on Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City side are currently six points behind Mourinho’s Premier League leaders.
