Jose Mourinho: Why Chelsea’s Eden Hazard must win player of the year
Jose Mourinho says Eden Hazard is the standout candidate to win the PFA player of the year award
Jose Mourinho believes that there is “no debate” that Eden Hazard should win the PFA player of the year award.
The Belgian playmaker has been in fine form for Chelsea this season to help the Blues to the top of the Premier League table as they aim to win their first top-flight title since 2010.
This player is by far the best player of this season
Hazard, who won the PFA young player of the year award last season, has scored 12 goals and made seven assists in 30 Premier League games for Chelsea so far this season.
The 24-year-old is one of the front-runners for this season’s main prize along with Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
However, Mourinho believes that Hazard is the standout candidate to win the prestigious award after his stellar displays for Chelsea this season.
“With what he’s doing, speaking in a very honest way, it shouldn’t even be a debate,” Mourinho told a news conference on Friday.
“If somebody throws other names on the table, it’s because they want to sell papers, to throw sand into people’s eyes. This player is by far the best player of this season.”
Chelsea return to Premier League action when they take on Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Sunday afternoon. The Blues are currently seven points clear at the top of the table.
