Juan Mata warns Man United to be ‘careful’ against Man City

Juan Mata warns Manchester United that they must be at their best if they want to keep Manchester City at bay next weekend

Juan Mata has warned Manchester United that they must be at their best if they want to keep Manchester City at bay during next weekend’s derby showdown.

The Red Devils host their local rivals at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon after continuing their recent good form with a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday.

United could consolidate their current position above the defending champions in the Premier League with a victory over Manuel Pellegrini’s men next weekend.

However, Mata has warned his Red Devils team-mates that they must keep their wits about them when they come up against the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva next weekend.

Mata wrote on his blog: “Winning the derby against City the next Sunday could be very important for the battle in the top four.

“A derby is always special and we must be careful with City’s attacking players, because they can win the game in an isolated play.”

Saturday’s win over Villa left United third in the Premier League table and eight points behind leaders Chelsea heading into the final seven games of the season.

United have won 18 of their 31 top-flight games so far this season, and eight of their last 10 Premier League outings.
