Gary Lineker and Jermaine Jenas lead the Twitter response after Anfield gives Jonas Gutierrez touching reception on Monday night
Gary Lineker was quick to pay tribute to Liverpool fans after the Anfield crowd gave Newcastle United midfielder Jonas Gutierrez an incredible reception last night.
The Argentina international was a second-half substitute in Newcastle’s 2-0 defeat as the 31-year-old made just his fifth appearance of the season after successfully beating testicular cancer.
Liverpool and Newcastle fans gave Gutierrez a standing ovation on Merseyside, which prompted famous footballers, past and present, to praise the compassion of the supporters.
First up, Gutierrez (@elgagojonas) thanked both Liverpool and Newcastle fans for their touching reception: “Thanks newcastle fans and liverpool fans for The ovation at Anfield.”
