Liverpool must get Philippe Coutinho to sign 10-year deal, says ex-Red
David Thompson tips Philippe Coutinho to attract interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid
Liverpool need to tie down Philippe Coutinho to a 10-year deal in anticipation of future interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid, according to David Thompson.
The Reds lost star man Luis Suarez to Barcelona last summer after the La Liga leaders completed a £75m swoop for the Uruguay international after months of speculation.
Coutinho, who moved to the Reds in a £8.5m deal from Inter Milan in January 2013, agreed a five-year deal with Liverpool in February after a promising season so far.
However, former Reds midfielder Thompson believes Liverpool must anticipate interest from Europe’s top clubs and convince Coutinho to sign a 10-year contract.
Thompson wrote on his Twitter page: “This Coutinho is on a different planet he will be next on Reals or Barcas radar!! Got to tie him down”
When one Twitter user highlighted Coutinho’s new deal in February, Thompson added: “needs to be a ten year deal I think he is to much!!”
The Brazil international produced starring performance in a 2-1 win against Newcastle United on Monday night.
Coutinho has scored an impressive five goals in 2015, including a late winner against Blackburn Rovers in their FA Cup quarter-final replay at Ewood Park last week.
