Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers hints at summer signings
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says he wants to add more exciting talent to his squad after securing Jordan Henderson's future
Brendan Rodgers says he hopes to add more “exciting talent” to his Liverpool squad.
The Reds were handed a boost on Thursday afternoon after vice-captain Jordan Henderson signed a new five-year deal with the Merseyside outfit.
Liverpool have been linked with a host of potential signings in recent months, including Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic and PSV Eindhoven star Memphis Depay.
Speaking about Henderson’s new long-term contract in an interview with Liverpool’s website, Rodgers appeared to hint at some exciting summer transfer activity.
Rodgers said: “The owners are committed to creating a team that can grow, improve and ultimately win together.
“We have seen some very important contract renewals this season and I’m confident, under Ian Ayre’s stewardship, we will see further commitments made and more exciting talent secured and added to our squad.”
The Liverpool manager spent over £110m on new signings last summer following the £75m sale of Luis Suarez to Champions League semi-finalists Barcelona.
Rodgers’ signings included Italy international Mario Balotelli, Southampton centre-half Dejan Lovren and Benfica winger Lazar Markovic.
The Reds are currently seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City ahead of their trip to West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Saturday.
