Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers: Philippe Coutinho one of Premier League’s best
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers heaps praise on Philippe Coutinho after 2-0 win against Newcastle
Brendan Rodgers has described Philippe Coutinho as one of the best players in the Premier League.
The Brazil international produced moments of brilliance throughout Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at Anfield on Monday night.
Although the 22-year-old failed to get on the score sheet as Raheem Sterling and Joe Allen scored past Tim Krul, Coutinho still scooped the man-of-the-match award.
And Liverpool manager Rodgers was quick to lavish praise on the South American youngster following another special performance this year.
Rodgers told BBC Sport: “I think Philippe Coutinho was incredible, sensational.
“He played in that hole between the midfield and their defence and was outstanding.
“He showed why he is one of the best players in the best league in the world.”
Coutinho signed a five-year deal with Liverpool in February 2015 after the Brazilian moved to Anfield in a £8.5m deal from Inter Milan in January 2015.
The Reds playmaker has scored five goals in 2015 so far, including a late winner for the Merseyside club in their FA Cup quarter-final replay at Blackburn Rovers last week.
Liverpool face Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
