Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva delivers injury update after Newcastle win

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva takes to social media to play down fears about his fitness

Lucas Leiva has insisted that his leg is “fine” after he was on the receiving end of a horror tackle from Moussa Sissoko during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Monday.

The Brazilian was brought down by Sissoko’s studs-up challenge and the French midfielder was shown a second yellow card for the dangerous tackle.

Lucas was clearly in pain following the challenge but the Liverpool man took to social media after Monday’s game to ease concerns about his fitness.

Lucas tweeted: “Great win today, my leg is fine, thanks for the messages.”

Raheem Sterling gave the Reds the lead in the ninth minute against Newcastle with a superb run and shot on Merseyside.

And midfielder Joe Allen made the points secure when he fired home a sharp half-volley in the 70th minute to move Liverpool to within four points of fourth-placed Manchester City.

Lucas will be hoping to feature in Liverpool’s next game – Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Aston Villa at Wembley.
