Man United would need to implode to miss top four, says ex-Red Devil
Manchester United legend Lou Macari can't envisage the Red Devils finishing outside of the top four
Manchester United would need to implode to miss out on a top-four finish at this stage of the season, according to former Red Devil Lou Macari.
The 20-time English champions are one of the Premier League’s form sides after an impressive run of six consecutive top-flight victories over the past couple of months.
Louis van Gaal’s side have answered their critics in emphatic fashion with wins against their top-four rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Manchester City.
United are eight points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool ahead of their trip to Premier League leaders Chelsea on Saturday evening.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Macari was confident that United would seal their return to the Champions League.
“It would need a complete collapse for Manchester United not to stay in the top four now. The other teams chasing would need to win every game.
“The form they’re in at the moment. They’ll pick up enough points to get back into the Champions League [next season].”
United can move to within five points of Jose Mourinho’s side if the Red Devils manage to beat the west London side at Stamford Bridge.
Robin van Persie scored a last-gasp equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw with the League Cup winners at Old Trafford earlier in the season.
