Man United transfers: Memphis Depay set for Red Devils, says Mario Melchiot

Former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot says he would love to see the Blues sign Memphis Depay this summer

Manchester United have won the race to sign Memphis Depay, according to former Dutch star Mario Melchiot.

The PSV Eindhoven forward has been linked with Premier League quartet Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and United in recent weeks.

On Friday, the Red Devils were reported to have met Depay’s representatives over a potential big-money move in the summer transfer window.

While Melchiot would love to see Depay join the Premier League leaders this summer, the former Blues defender conceded that the Blues have been beaten in the race to sign the highly-rated Netherlands international.

Depay scored 22 goals in 28 Eredivise appearances last season as the Dutch forward helped fire PSV to the Dutch top-flight crown last weekend.

The 22-year-old winger was part of Louis van Gaal’s Oranje squad that finished in third place in last summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

The United manager has already signed Depay’s Dutch team-mate Daley Blind, who completed a £16m move to Old Trafford from Ajax last year.
