Man United transfers: Red Devils given big Mats Hummels boost
Borussia Dortmund admit that Manchester United target Mats Hummels is for sale in the summer transfer window
Manchester United have been given a huge boost in their pursuit of Mats Hummels after Borussia Dortmund admitted that the Germany international is for sale in the summer.
The 26-year-old has long been touted as a target for the Red Devils and was linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer as Louis van Gaal looks to shore up his defence.
Reports linking Hummels with a summer switch to Manchester United have gathered pace this week, with the Red Devils reported to be weighing up a bid for the Borussia Dortmund man.
Now, Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has conceded that the Bundesliga club will weigh up Hummels’ situation at the end of the season.
“In this moment this a total dummy discussion, because there is no offer,” Watzke is quoted as saying by the Guardian. “If one arrives, we will discuss it internally and make a decision. But this decision will only be taken by BVB.
“The situation at Dortmund is like this: We’ve lost one major player each year but we don’t stop playing football.
“To be clear: Mats knows his contractual situation, he described it in that interview himself. The decision where Mats will play next season will only be taken by BVB.”
Hummels has scored one goal in 17 Bundesliga games for Jurgen Klopp’s Dortmund team so far this season.
United return to Premier League action against Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils currently fourth in the table.
