Man United transfers: Red Devils handed huge Ilkay Gundogan boost
Borussia Dortmund confirm that Manchester United target Ilkay Gundogan will not be extending his contract beyond next summer
Manchester United have been handed a significant boost in their reported pursuit of Ilkay Gundogan after Borussia Dortmund confirmed that the Germany international would not be extending his contract beyond the end of next season.
The Red Devils are thought to be keen on luring the midfielder to Old Trafford as Louis van Gaal looks to bolster his squad ahead of his second season in charge at the club.
And Dortmund confirmed via a series of tweets that the 24-year-old will not be extending his deal with the German club.
“Borussia Dortmund and midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will not agree on a June 2016 extension,” Dortmund posted on their official Twitter account. “Gundogan has decided not to renew his contract valid until that date.”

The news follows Jurgen Klopp’s announcement earlier this month that he will leave Dortmund after seven years in charge at the Bundesliga club and leaves the futures of the likes of Mats Hummels and Marco Reus in doubt.
Gundogan, who joined Dortmund from Nuremberg in 2011 and has won the Bundesliga and the German Cup, has made 26 appearances for Dortmund this season.
