Man United’s Juan Mata congratulates Chelsea on title win

Juan Mata offers his congratulations to Chelsea for winning this season's Premier League title

Juan Mata has congratulated Chelsea on winning the Premier League title this season as the Blues close in on lifting the trophy.

The Manchester United midfielder featured at Stamford Bridge as the Red Devils slumped to a 1-0 loss to Jose Mourinho’s men at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

That victory left Chelsea needing just six more points from their remaining six games to win their first top-flight trophy since 2010.

And Mata, who joined United from Chelsea back in January 2014, has congratulated his former club on effectively wrapping up the title.

Mata wrote on his blog: “To them and also to the players, I thank them for such affection and I congratulate them for the title they are about to win, because it’s almost done.

“It was nice to meet them and chat with them after the game, and also the club’s staff, doctors and physios, and feel their respect and friendship. Thanks to all and congratulations.”

Chelsea return to Premier League action when they take on Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Mourinho’s men head into that game 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

United, meanwhile, take on Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday as they look for a victory to take them another step closer to Champions League qualification.
