Man United’s Wayne Rooney sings Marouane Fellaini’s praises
Wayne Rooney heaps praise on Marouane Fellaini after Manchester United's derby win over City
Wayne Rooney has heaped praise on Marouane Fellaini following the Belgium international’s impressive recent form for Manchester United.
The 27-year-old endured a season to forget following his £27m transfer to Old Trafford from Everton in the summer of 2013 following David Moyes’ appointment at the club.
However, Fellaini has been in top form for Louis van Gaal’s United side in recent weeks and played a major part in helping United thrash local rivals Manchester City 4-2 at Old Trafford on Sunday, scoring the Red Devils’ second goal.
He is a different option for us. It is starting to show on the pitch
And Manchester United captain Rooney was full of praise for Fellaini for showing a positive attitude even when things were not going his way.
Rooney told United’s website: “He is getting used in the right way. He is a handful for defenders to mark. We like to play out from the back and if teams are pressing us then we have him as an option.
“He is probably the best in world football at bringing the ball down and getting us out of pressure and further up the pitch. He is being used in the right way by the manager and he is repaying that with goals and good performances.
“It was tough for him but he had the whole team’s support. He kept his head down, worked hard and came through that period. He is showing now what he did at Everton and why Manchester United bought him.
“He is a quality player. He is a different option for us. It is starting to show on the pitch.”
Sunday’s win over Manchester City left United third in the Premier League table and just a point behind second-placed Arsenal.
Fellaini will be expecting to feature when Van Gaal’s men head to Stamford Bridge to take on leaders Chelsea this weekend.
