Nacer Chadli: Tottenham must improve a lot
Tottenham Hotspur forward Nacer Chadi reflects on a disappointing 1-0 loss to 10-man Aston Villa last weekend
Nacer Chadli has demanded an improvement from Tottenham Hotspur ahead of their clash against Newcastle United on Sunday.
The north London side slumped to their fifth home defeat of the Premier League season on Saturday after 10-man Aston Villa sealed a surprise win at White Hart Lane courtesy of Christian Benteke’s winner.
This match shows we are not in good form and we have to respond next week at Newcastle
Tottenham still have an outside chance of finishing in the top four thanks to Manchester City’s run of three defeats in their last four Premier League games, opening the door for Southampton, Liverpool and Spurs.
And Belgium international Chadli is under no illusion that Tottenham must improve if Mauricio Pochettino’s side want to beat Newcastle at St James’ Park next weekend and boost their chances of a top-four finish.
Chadli told Tottenham’s website: “The problem was we didn’t create enough chances and we didn’t play well enough to do all of the things we need to.
“We knew Aston Villa would fight but we played for the three points too and they fought harder than us.
“We have to improve a lot, we have to get better in every sector as a team and everybody as individuals to play a better game.
“This match shows we are not in good form and we have to respond next week at Newcastle.”
Chadli has enjoyed a reasonable second season in the Premier League after the Belgian moved to Tottenham from FC Twente in 2013.
The Spurs forward has scored eight goals and has made five assists in 25 Premier League games, as well as scoring in the FA Cup and League Cup.
