Newcastle 1 Tottenham 3: Player ratings as Nabil Bentaleb stars

Player ratings as Nabil Bentaleb impresses in Tottenham Hotspur's win at St James' Park

Newcastle United

Tim Krul Had a mixed game. Made one brilliant save from Kane from point-blank range and another from Lamela, but was at fault for both Eriksen and Chadli’s goals. 5/10

Daryl Janmaat The defender has been Newcastle’s most consistent player this season and put in another solid performance. Was occasionally caught out of position by Chadli. 6

Fabricio Coloccini It was a steady game from the Argentine. His superb block from Eriksen’s long-range effort was an example of the commitment he put into the game. 6

Mike Williamson The centre-half was decent in possession of the ball and his long passing was accurate. However, he made a few mistakes defensively and was often slow to react too dangerous situations. 5

Vurnon Anita Not sure what his best position is. His pace helps him at left-back but his positioning needs to improve – appears to play better in a holding role in midfield. 5

Mehdi Abeid With Taylor playing the holding role it was Abeid’s job to try and support Perez but he was pretty anonymous in the first-half and it was not a surprise to see him substituted. 5

Ryan Taylor Played reasonably well in a holding role despite being limited when he was in possession of it. Completed all five of his tackles in the game. 5

Jack Colback Took his goal really well following a deflection. The ball fell kindly to him and he passed the ball into the net from inside the area past Vorm’s outstretched arm. 6

Yoan Gouffran Hasn’t replicated the form he showed last season under Alan Pardew and struggled out on the wing and was starved of possession. Did set up a good chance for Perez, when his inch-perfect cross found him inside the box. 5

Ayoze Perez You can never question his work-rate but he doesn’t appear to have a killer instinct in front of goal. Better playing behind the striker than as an orthodox number nine. 6

Remy Cabella Is brilliant when he has the ball at his feet. Can make things happen with his close control and dribbling ability but he often goes missing in games as well. 5

Substitutes

Gabriel Obertan Made absolutely no impact when he came on. Doesn’t take notice of his surroundings sometimes meaning that his crosses can often go wrong. 5

Sammy Ameobi Offered some pace and power to Newcastle’s front-line but made the wrong decision when he was in a good position at times. 5

Tottenham Hotspur

Michel Vorm Made a few routine saves but Spurs will be happy when Lloris returns as Vorm isn’t of the same quality. 6

Eric Dier Improving with each game and this was another good performance. Forged a good understanding with Lamela on the wing which caused Newcastle problems. 7

Federico Fazio Looked much better in his defensive work winning three aerial duels, and making quite a few successful tackles. 7

Jan Vertonghen Solid performance but did receive a yellow card after mistiming a challenge and catching Perez’s on the ankle. 7

Danny Rose Another decent performance from the full-back. Made two successful tackles and competed 89 per cent of his passes. 7

Nabil Bentaleb (Man of the match) Very mature for a player so young. Heavily involved in the game with 72 passes and completed four tackles successfully. Vital to Spurs’ midfield and many of the attacks are initiated through the Algerian. 7

Paulinho Has been a devise figure for Spurs fans but played well today and kept things simple completing 66 passes in the game. 7

Nacer Chadli Can be deceptively quick when he gets going and scored a good goal. His swerving, powerful shot went straight through Krul’s hands. 7

Christian Eriksen Central to most of what Spurs did well. His beautifully whipped in free-kick was too good for Krul and helped earn Spurs the three points. 7

Erik Lamela At times it appears the Argentine doesn’t care with his laid back demeanour but he has a lot of talent. Should have scored when he was through on goal but his dinked effort was fantastically saved by Krul. 6

Harry Kane His instinctive effort from inside the box was well saved but he eventually got his goal running onto a Lamela pass and sliding the ball past Krul. 7
