Olivier Giroud plans to outscore Alexis Sanchez for Arsenal

Olivier Giroud wants to score more goals than Alexis Sanchez for Arsenal this season

Olivier Giroud has declared his intention to outscore Alexis Sanchez this season as he bids to help Arsenal finish the campaign on a high.

Both Giroud and Sanchez have scored 13 goals in the Premier League for Arsene Wenger’s men this season to help the north London club up to third place in the top-flight table.

And Giroud says he is aiming to finish above the £35m summer signing in the Gunners’ goal-scoring charts this season.

Speaking to RMC, Giroud said: “I’m not going to say something silly because it’ll be reported, but why not finish ahead of Alexis?

“We push each other, we’re on 13 goals, and I would like to score some more to help the team achieve its objectives.”

France international Giroud was voted Arsenal’s player of the month for March after a string of impressive displays for the north London club.

Giroud netted against Everton, Queens Park Rangers, West Ham United, Monaco and Newcastle United in a prolific month for the 28-year-old.

The forward, who joined Arsenal from Montpellier in 2012, will be hoping to feature when the Gunners host Liverpool at Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.
