Phil Neville: This man should be Man United top signing this summer
Phil Neville wants to see Manchester United tie up the future of goalkeeper David De Gea this summer
Phil Neville has told Manchester United that they must make securing David De Gea’s future at the club their main priority during the summer transfer window.
The Spanish goalkeeper’s future has been a source of speculation in recent weeks amid reports that Real Madrid are keen on luring the shot-stopper back to Spain.
De Gea, whose contract expires at the end of next season, has been in fine form for United this season and has been placed on the shortlist for the PFA player of the year award.
And former Manchester United man Neville feels that keeping De Gea at Old Trafford should be the Red Devils’ number one priority during the off-season.
Neville told the Manchester Evening News: “The biggest thing is David de Gea, and keeping him at the football club.
“From when he first came, to how he is now, I don’t think I’ve seen a player develop and improve as quickly as him.
“I saw with Cristiano [Ronaldo], I saw the development in terms of his performance, his size, his stature and his physique. He’s now at the stage where you’d say he’s world-class.”
United are currently third in the Premier League table after last weekend’s 1-0 defeat by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
De Gea will be expecting to feature when the Red Devils travel to Everton on Sunday afternoon.
