Serge Gnabry was delighted to edge close to a return to Arsenal’s first-team after he completed 90 minutes of the Under-21 side’s clash at The Emirates on Monday night.

The young German hasn’t featured for the north London side since their clash against Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the Champions League in March 2014.

Gnabry, who signed a new long-term deal in last year, made his return from a long-term knee injury in February as he lined out for the FA Cup winner’s Under-21 side.

The 20-year-old featured for the U21s again alongside Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby in a 1-0 loss to Reading last night, and Gnabry took to Instagram to give fans an update on Tuesday.

Gnabry wrote: “It was great playing 90 minutes again yesterday evening. What a pity we lost the match… #ArsenalU21 #COYG”

The Arsenal teenager made 14 appearances for the north London side last season, scoring his first Gunners goal against Swansea City in September 2013.

Gnabry’s impressive form during the 2013-14 campaign earned the midfielder a new five-year Arsenal deal, keeping the forward at The Emirates until 2019.
