Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers appears in chirpy mood during training at Melwood on Thursday

Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard appeared to be in good spirits as Liverpool trained ahead of their trip to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds crashed out of the FA Cup in dramatic style last Sunday after the seven-time winners suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa at Wembley.

Liverpool still have an outside chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League but must overturn fourth-placed Manchester City’s seven-point advantage.

The Merseyside outfit made a return to winning ways in their most recent Premier League game thanks to a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at Anfield.

Mario Balotelli tussled with Liverpool centre-half Kolo Toure during training as the Italy international looks to make the most of Daniel Sturridge’s continued absence.

Gerrard, meanwhile, was all smiles despite Villa crushing the prospect of the Liverpool captain getting the perfect send off in the FA Cup final at Wembley on his birthday on 30 May.

The Liverpool skipper chatted with Jordan Henderson, who signed a new five-year deal on Thursday afternoon, whilst Rodgers oversaw training at Melwood.
