Robert Pires is fully expecting Arsene Wenger to stay at Arsenal beyond the summer and believes that the Frenchman’s drive and determination is as strong as ever.

Wenger signed a new three-year contract at Emirates Stadium last summer to take him through to 2017 but speculation about the 65-year-old’s future has resurfaced following Arsenal’s exit from the Champions League at the last-16 stage last month.

However, former Arsenal midfielder Pires believes that Wenger is still hungry for success at Emirates Stadium and is expecting the Frenchman to remain in charge next season.

Speaking to RMC, Pires said: “It’s not a question of strength. He’s not tired. He still has that desire to be on the pitch, because he loves it, it’s his vocation, he’s been doing it for many years.

“His aim is to qualify for the Champions League, which I think will happen, and what is certain is that you will see him on the bench again next year.”

Arsenal return to Premier League action when they host Liverpool at Emirates Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

Arsenal take on Reading in the semi-finals of the FA Cup later this month as they look to defend the title they won last season.
